SMS Equipment is seeking a Heavy Equipment Technician, 3rd/4th Year Apprentice for our Surrey, BC branch. Join a safety-driven team that values your expertise and supports your growth. Wage is $41.85–$47.08 per hour with additional premiums.

Responsibilities include diagnosing and repairing heavy equipment, performing troubleshooting, and ensuring high-quality work in shop or field environments. Shift is 4x3, 10 hours per shift.

Are you a Heavy Equipment Technician, 3rd/4th Year Apprentice who enjoys solving puzzles, tracing problems, and creating solutions? This position will provide support and expertise working on industry-leading equipment. You will employ logic and deductive reasoning in diagnosing and troubleshooting. SMS Equipment is looking for a knowledgeable Heavy Equipment Technician, 3rd/4th Year Apprentice to join our highly skilled team at our Surrey, BC branch. Wage: $41.85 / $47.08 per hour. Additional premiums apply.
Location: Surrey, BC
Shift: 4x3 - 10 hour shifts

What You’ll Do

Join SMS Equipment and work with some of the largest and most advanced heavy equipment in the world. You’ll play a hands-on role in keeping operations running safely and efficiently by:

• Diagnosing and repairing construction equipment
• Performing troubleshooting and major component replacements in shop and field environments
• Working with hydraulic and powertrain systems
• Ensuring timely, high-quality repairs whether working independently or in a team
• Following all safety procedures, including confined space and PPE requirements
• Make recommendations regarding the extent of repairs and suggest methods of improvement.

What You Bring

We’re looking for a team player with a strong work ethic and safety-first mindset. Successful candidates will have:

• 3rd/4th year apprentice status in the Heavy Equipment Technician trade.
• Strong mechanical problem-solving skills and a commitment to safe, high-quality work
• Ability to work independently and communicate effectively in both team and customer-facing settings
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience with Komatsu equipment is considered an asset.
