Job summary

Alberta Precision Labs in Calgary is seeking a Laboratory Assistant I for the Anatomic Pathology Department. The role supports the pathology hub for Calgary and surrounding areas, handling high volumes of specimens and operating automated equipment while maintaining sample integrity.

You will perform a range of laboratory tasks including specimen processing, testing, reporting results, and contributing to safety and quality control programs.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology.
  • Experience performing bench-based laboratory support tasks: specimen processing, equipment operation/maintenance, reagent prep, quality control, waste handling.
  • Experience with laboratory safety practices (WHMIS) and PPE required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality service for the clinical laboratory in a safe, efficient manner.
  • Procure, handle, process, dispatch and test specimens; report results.
  • Perform quality assurance, troubleshoot and escalate issues as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records and participate in orientation/training of staff and students.
  • Work with the Laboratory Information System (LIS) to document activities and results.
