Job summary

Alberta Precision Labs (APL) seeks a Laboratory Assistant I at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. You will provide high quality service to clients in the clinical laboratory, ensuring efficient, safe workflows while performing specimen handling, testing and reporting results.

Responsibilities include procurement and processing of specimens, with opportunities to expand skills in phlebotomy and related lab procedures, in a supportive, team-based environment within the provincial health system.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
• Alternatives include MLT/CLXT programs in Canada or approved U.S./Canada training with phlebotomy experience.

You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Equivalency is defined as completion of a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) and/or Combined Laboratory and Xray Technologist (CLXT) program in Canada; completion of a Medical Lab Technician/Technologist program outside of Canada; and/or MLT or CLXT students who have completed their phlebotomy training/rotation. Applicants with a high` school diploma may be considered. Upon hire, you will be required to complete on-the-job phlebotomy training provided by APL at no cost, and formal training courses offered by SAIT (Southern Alberta Institute of Technology) or NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology). The costs associated with these formal training courses will be your responsibility. You will be required to complete these training requirements within your probationary period, as per the Health Sciences Association of Alberta (HSAA) collective agreement.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in blood and ECG collections.
