Alberta Precision Labs in Calgary is seeking a Laboratory Assistant I, Pre-analytics, to join a public health laboratory team. You will handle specimens, ensure accurate transcription into the laboratory information system, label samples and requisitions, and operate or maintain equipment.
This role supports patient safety and adheres to SOPs and accreditation standards. You will rotate through the problem-solving bench, assist with training, and contribute to quality control and improvement
As a Laboratory Assistant I, Pre-analytics, you are part of a public health laboratory team providing specimen logistic and customer service functions while adhering to laboratory standard operating procedures and laboratory accreditation requirements. You will plan and organize your work responsibilities and processes to perform a variety of routine and specialized procedures which include receiving, sorting and validating patient samples, accurate transcription of patient demographics and tests into the laboratory information system, labelling samples and requisitions, operating and maintaining laboratory equipment, preparing specimens for transfer/referral, and assisting with the training of staff and students as required. You will rotate through the problem-solving (intervention) bench. You will use your knowledge and demonstrated understanding of quality systems to participate in quality control functions and quality improvement activities. You ensure work processes are carried out with patient and staff safety as a priority. You may be required to perform specimen processing functions in other areas of the lab.
As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.
Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:Recent experience in a large Microbiology lab.
