Job summary

Manulife is seeking a cloud platform engineer to design and manage the Canadian AKS-based shared cluster model. You will drive automation via Infrastructure-as-Code, leverage AI-assisted tooling to streamline operations, and coordinate with partner teams to deliver a cohesive platform experience.

Responsibilities include building scalable, secure clusters, integrating CI/CD pipelines, monitoring and security services, and ensuring governance across operations.

Qualifications

• Experience in cloud computing (Azure strongly preferred).
• Expertise in automation and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, Bicep, ARM, etc.).
• Experience using AI-assisted engineering tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Azure OpenAI, or similar) to improve automation, troubleshooting, and enhance engineering workflows.
• Experience operating or supporting shared platform services—such as shared Kubernetes clusters, CI/CD systems, observability platforms, or security/risk tooling.
• Strong understanding of networking and security concepts.
• Experience with Identity and Access Management (Azure AD, RBAC, workload identity).
• Proficiency with cloud networking infrastructure and distributed system patterns.
• Hands-on experience with API gateways and cloud-based architectures.
• Strong system administration background.
• Scripting/programming proficiency (PowerShell, Bash, Python, etc.).
• Experience with containers and Kubernetes (AKS experience is an asset).

Responsibilities

• Design the AKS cluster model for the Canadian segment.
• Implement improvements to existing infrastructure with zero disruption to business operations.
• Build an integrated end-to-end experience for application development teams by combining the AKS clusters owned by our team with capabilities delivered by partner teams—including CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, logging, risk controls, and security services.
• Automate cluster maintenance tasks, operational workflows, and routine processes using Infrastructure-as-Code and AI-assisted tooling.
• Continuously find opportunities to reduce manual effort, improve reliability, and enhance deployment efficiency.
• Ensure compliance with enterprise risk and security standards across cluster design, operations, and governance.
• Monitor and maintain the health, performance, scalability, and security of AKS clusters.
• Partner with application development teams to ensure the shared cluster model meets both business and technical needs.
• Work closely with capability-owner teams (pipelines, observability, risk, security, etc.) to align standards, integrate services, and deliver a cohesive platform experience.
• Maintain positive relationships with business partners and shared technology teams, ensuring alignment on governance, roadmaps, and service delivery.
