• Prepare journal entries and support month-end close activities (accruals, prepaids).
• Review invoices for accuracy, tax treatment, and expense classification.
• Collaborate with internal departments to resolve invoice issues and ensure timely processing.

About the Opportunity: Our client is seeking an experienced Accounts Payable Specialist to join their finance team on an initial 3-month contract, with the potential to transition into a permanent position for the right candidate. This is a hands-on opportunity for a detail-oriented, proactive professional who is comfortable independently managing the full accounts payable function. The ideal candidate will bring strong accounting knowledge, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to take ownership of processes while working collaboratively with a lean finance team.

Key Responsibilities

• Independently manage the full-cycle accounts payable function, including invoice processing, coding, reconciliations, and payment support.
• Manage vendor relationships, respond to inquiries, and proactively investigate and resolve discrepancies.
• Ensure accurate allocation and coding of operating expenses across departments and general ledger accounts.
• Prepare journal entries and support month-end close activities, including accruals and prepaid expenses.
• Review invoices for accuracy, appropriate tax treatment, and proper expense classification.
• Collaborate with internal departments to resolve invoice issues and ensure timely processing.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements and support additional accounting activities as required.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of full-cycle accounts payable experience, ideally with responsibility for independently managing the function.
• Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
• Strong understanding of accounting fundamentals, including debits and credits, journal entries, accruals, and prepaids.
• Experience with vendor management, account reconciliations, and general ledger coding.
• Intermediate Excel skills, including pivot tables and lookup functions.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities independently.
• Proactive problem-solving abilities, sound judgment, and strong communication skills.
• Comfortable working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment with a high degree of autonomy.
