As a Senior Lead Java Developer at ThoughtLabs Belgium, you will take full ownership of technical leadership, code quality architecture, team mentoring, and delivery for the Bodem 2050 environmental project. Your day-to-day responsibilities encompass designing resilient REST APIs with Spring Boot, building responsive user interfaces with React and TypeScript, optimizing database queries across SQL, DB2, and Postgres, and managing CI/CD deployment pipelines utilizing Bamboo and Helm charts. You will participate actively in Agile ceremonies, maintain technical documentation via Atlassian Jira and Confluence, and ensure strict compliance with public sector environmental standards. Working in a fast-paced consulting environment, you will drive technical excellence, system scalability, and project success through July 2027 (~1,280 hours).
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead software development, architecture design, and technical delivery for the Bodem 2050 environmental initiative with OVAM.
- Coach, mentor, and guide technical development teams to adhere to enterprise coding standards and Agile best practices.
- Design, develop, and maintain robust backend microservices utilizing Java, J2EE, Spring Boot, and secure REST APIs.
- Build dynamic, responsive frontend user interfaces leveraging React, TypeScript, and modern web development frameworks.
- Manage and optimize relational and enterprise databases including SQL, IBM DB2, and PostgreSQL.
- Configure, monitor, and maintain CI/CD deployment pipelines utilizing Atlassian Bamboo and container orchestration via Helm charts.
- Collaborate proactively with public sector stakeholders, project managers, and cross-functional engineering squads.
- Participate in Agile sprint planning, backlog grooming, code reviews, and architectural decision-making.
- Maintain comprehensive technical documentation, architecture blueprints, and task tracking via Atlassian Jira and Confluence.
- Ensure strict adherence to project timelines, quality benchmarks, and Dutch-language communication requirements (CEFR C2 level).
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum 5+ years of professional software engineering experience specializing in Java and J2EE development.
- Proven leadership experience managing, coaching, and guiding technical development teams in enterprise environments.
- Strong technical proficiency and hands‑on operational mastery of Spring Boot, REST APIs, React, TypeScript, and modern web frameworks.
- Extensive practical experience in relational database design and query optimization across SQL, IBM DB2, and PostgreSQL.
- Operational expertise in Agile methodologies, Atlassian tooling (Jira, Confluence), Bamboo CI/CD pipelines, and Helm charts.
- Mandatory linguistic proficiency: Fluent in Dutch (CEFR C2 level) for professional public sector stakeholder collaboration.
