Pauwels Consulting is assisting a prominent public-sector client in Mechelen with a Lead Java Developer role. You will drive the development of complex applications and provide technical leadership to a dedicated team.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of Java/J2EE backend experience, REST API expertise, React/TypeScript frontend skills, and strong DB2/PostgreSQL knowledge, plus Agile leadership and Dutch fluency at C2 level.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend development with Java/J2EE and Spring Boot.
• REST API design and implementation experience.
• Frontend experience with React and TypeScript.
• SQL/Postgres/DB2 database hands-on.
• Proven leadership and coaching of a development team.
• Java/J2EE certification or equivalent expertise.
• Strong knowledge of Agile methodologies.
• Fluent Dutch (C2).

Our client, a prominent organization in the public sector, is looking for a Lead Java Developer. The role involves driving the development of complex applications while providing technical leadership and coaching to a dedicated development team.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coach a development team to ensure high-quality software delivery and professional growth.
• Execute complex programming tasks including coding, testing, and debugging Java-based applications.
• Implement and integrate REST APIs with a focus on performance and reliability.
• Take a leading role in Agile development processes and project ceremonies.
• Manage database interactions and data integrity using SQL, Postgres, and DB2.

Requirements

• 5+ years experience in backend development using Java, J2EE, and Spring Boot.
• 5+ years experience with the design and implementation of REST APIs.
• Experience in frontend development using React and TypeScript.
• Experience with database management systems including SQL, Postgres, and DB2.
• Proven experience in leading a development team and coaching individual team members.
• Possession of a certification or equivalent expertise in Java/J2EE programming.
• You possess extensive knowledge of Agile development methodologies and can take a lead role within them.
• You are fluent in Dutch with a C2 level of proficiency.

Nice to Haves

• Experience with CI/CD automation using Bamboo.
• Working knowledge of Atlassian Tools such as Jira and Confluence.
• Familiarity with Helm charts for application deployment.
• Experience developing applications that incorporate geographic data.
• Previous professional experience within the public sector.

• Work regime: Full-time, 4/5th might be possible
