Hive-X in Brussels is seeking a senior Java developer to join a large-scale program responsible for taking over 30 business applications, providing maintenance, new features, and potential re-engineering.

The role offers hybrid work with on-site presence two days per week and optional remote days. Initial contract runs until 30 September 2026, with long-term extension possible for EU nationals.

Qualifications

• Minimum 7 years of full-time Java development experience.
• Experience with multi-system integration and complex environments.
• Strong technical knowledge in Java, Spring, Angular, REST, and related tools.
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum and CI/CD practices.

Project Overview

The program aims to take over a portion of the Ministry of Defence’s application landscape and strengthen the internal teams. It involves the complete takeover of the operational management of approximately thirty business applications, which vary in business and technology. The takeover activities are split into three main areas:

• Handover/Takeover – documentation, application maintenance, and development of new features.
• Re‑engineering and/or complete rewriting of applications to align with current development standards.
• Language requirements: French or Dutch at expert level; English at advanced (written) level.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain business applications.
• Develop application components and web services.
• Contribute to the design of architecture components and building blocks in close collaboration with technical leads or senior architects.
• Participate in technical working groups, Scrum meetings, and user meetings if required.
• Assist in testing, technical documentation, deployment, evaluation, and reporting (Unit, JIRA).

Qualifications

• Minimum 7 years of full‑time professional Java development experience (full‑stack preferred).
• Experience with multi‑system integration and complex environments.
• Strong technical knowledge and practical experience with the following technologies:
  • Java 17+
  • Spring 4+, Spring Boot 3+
  • Frontend – Angular 19+
  • RESTful Web Services, OpenAPI
  • Test‑driven development (JUnit, Mockito, Cypress)
  • Maven, Docker, Git, NPM
  • Relational databases and ORM (PostgreSQL, SQL Server, etc.)
  • Reading BPMN, UML, and documentation practices
  • Agile/Scrum methodologies and continuous integration
• Problem solver, quick to understand existing code, solution‑ and customer‑oriented.
• Ability to integrate easily into an existing team.
• Nice to have: Keycloak, Hibernate, Lombok, Mapstruct, OpenShift/Kubernetes, GitLab CI, Sonar, OAuth 2.0, Flyway or Liquibase, JIRA/Confluence.

Mission & Working Hours

Location: Brussels (just in front of Midi Station). Initial contract until 30/09/2026 – the mission is long‑term and can be extended. Possibility of remote work (up to 7.5 h per day) with a requirement to be on site for a minimum of two days per week. EU nationals only.
