Job summary

City of Casey is seeking a hands-on Coordinator Workshop to lead a mechanics team and oversee servicing, maintenance and repairs of council fleet, plant and equipment. This role combines leadership with technical hands-on work to minimise downtime, ensure safety and deliver cost-effective servicing.

The position supports maintenance programs across passenger, light commercial and heavy vehicles, with potential after-hours rostering and a strong focus on asset records and lifecycle planning.

Qualifications

• Recognised mechanical trade qualification.
• Supervisory or team leadership experience in a workshop.
• Experience maintaining petrol and diesel vehicles, plant and equipment.
• Experience with hybrid and electric plant or equipment is highly regarded.
• Competence with maintenance software and asset-management systems.
• Valid Victorian driver licence; Heavy Rigid licence preferred.
• Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate servicing, maintenance and repair programs for Council’s vehicles, plant and equipment.
• Lead, mentor and develop mechanics and apprentices in a safety-focused team.
• Ensure activities meet specifications and regulatory requirements.
• Monitor workloads, downtime and budgets.
• Undertake hands-on maintenance and repairs when required.
• Coordinate commissioning and decommissioning of plant and equipment.
• Manage supplier relationships and warranty/repair work.
• Maintain asset records and support lifecycle planning.
• Support asset inspections and replacement forecasting.
• Maintain safe workshop practices and risk controls.
• Review breakdown data to identify root causes and improvements.
• Coordinate fleet technology such as GPS, dashcams and load-cell systems.
