Job summary

Banana Shire Council is seeking a Workshop Supervisor to lead mechanical staff, coordinate workshop workflows and ensure high-quality maintenance of plant and fleet assets. You will provide technical guidance, oversee safety compliance and liaise with contractors and stakeholders to support daily operations.

The role emphasizes leadership, hands-on maintenance, and continuous improvement of workshop processes, with a focus on safety and customer service within the Council fleet environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in high quality maintenance and repair of plant and fleet vehicles.
• Ability to motivate, lead and coordinate teams.
• Expert advice on complex mechanical matters.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and supervise workshop tasks and workflows, including contractors.
• Perform maintenance and repairs on plant and equipment per specs and PM program.
• Weld and hard-face repairs to ground-engaging tools as needed.
• Ensure high quality maintenance for Council's plant and fleet.
• Provide technical leadership to Technicians and staff.
• Promote high level customer service across the team.
• Oversee vehicle COI inspections across the fleet.
• Assist Technicians with diagnosing issues.
• Coordinate parts orders with Parts Interpreter.
• Ensure safety compliance with WHS/OHS regulations.
• Conduct monthly safety audits of workshop plant/equipment.
• Conduct performance reviews and develop new practices.
• Research changes to mechanical practices and technology.
• Represent Council and maintain good public relations.
• Liaise with clients and authorities; handle information exchange.
• Perform routine administrative tasks as required.
• Assist senior staff to improve processes and training.
• Participate in training, exercises and disaster response as required.
• Undertake other duties aligned with skills and training.
