Paroo Shire Council is seeking a Workshop Mechanic to diagnose and repair fault‑prone heavy vehicles, trucks, plant and light vehicles. You will perform planned and reactive maintenance, record keeping and safety compliance in a busy workshop environment.

The role is casual to start, with potential for permanent employment based on performance and operational needs. You will work under the Workshop and Fleet Coordinator within the Infrastructure / Workshop and Fleet team.

Competenze

• Legal right to live and work in Australia.
• Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology or equivalent.
• Current Queensland C Class Driver’s Licence or higher.
• White Card (Construction Induction Card) or ability to obtain.
• Ability to meet pre-employment health and police check requirements.
• Proven hands-on ability to diagnose and repair faults in heavy vehicles, trucks, plant and/or light vehicles.
• Ability to use diagnostic equipment and fault codes to identify root causes.
• Reliability, accountability and ability to work independently in a small team.
• Maintain accurate electronic job cards, service and time records.
• Prioritise repairs and communicate progress clearly.
• Extra skills in auto-electrical, air conditioning or inspection certificates are a plus.

• Independently diagnose and repair faults in heavy vehicles, trucks, plant, light vehicles and equipment.
• Undertake breakdown repairs, scheduled servicing and inspections to restore safe operation.
• Identify root causes and select practical repairs, seeking support as needed.
• Use parts and tools cost‑effectively to support reliability and cost efficiency.
• Maintain accurate electronic records of service, defects, parts and times.
• Keep stakeholders informed of progress and impacts on operations.
• Test repairs and verify faults are resolved before returning to service.
• Conduct inspections and issue required certificates where legally applicable.
• Maintain a clean, safe workshop and report hazards.
• Assist apprentices and other staff as qualified.
