Prefer being outdoors to sitting behind a desk?

If you're practical, enjoy keeping active and like getting on with the job, this could be right up your alley!

Nambucca Valley Council is looking for a reliable, self-motivated Water Meter Officer to join our Water and Sewerage team.

This is a hands-on role that will see you travelling throughout the beautiful Nambucca Valley, reading and replacing water meters, investigating unusual water usage and helping Council transition to smart meter technology.

You'll be out and about most days, managing your own routes and playing an important part in delivering an essential service to our community. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Water meter reading - Planning and completing daily routes to read residential and commercial water meters.
  • Meter replacements - Replacing existing 20mm and 25mm water meters as part of Council's renewal program.
  • Investigating water usage - Checking unusual readings, identifying potential meter issues and assisting customers with possible water leaks.
  • Smart meter technology - Supporting the installation and transition to digital water meters and associated software.
  • Accurate record keeping - Recording meter readings, locations, replacements and other relevant information using handheld devices.
Who are we looking for?

You don't necessarily need previous water meter reading experience. We're looking for someone who is practical, dependable and comfortable working independently.

To be successful, you'll need:

  • A current NSW Class C driver's licence
  • A Construction Induction Card (White Card)
  • The ability to work independently, plan your day and manage your workload
  • Good communication skills and a professional approach when dealing with the public
  • An understanding of workplace health and safety requirements
  • The ability to undertake an active outdoor role involving walking up to 16km daily, bending, kneeling and safely lifting up to 10kg

Basic computer skills and experience using handheld devices, spreadsheets or databases would be an advantage.

If you enjoy physical work, take pride in doing a job properly and can be trusted to get on with it, we'd love to hear from you.
