Job summary

Tweed Shire Council in Tweed Heads is offering a permanent full-time Technical Assistant position in the Water Meter Reading and Inspections team. You will read water meters, perform on-site tests, and help ensure meters are accurate and reliable.

You’ll investigate anomalies, optimise the meter reading program, and may handle special reads for property conveyancing. This role suits someone who enjoys outdoor work and independent duties.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated knowledge of water meters, water billing and water efficiency principles.
• Ability to carry out maintenance tasks and on-site tests to ensure meters work correctly.
• Problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate professionally with the public.
• Experience with corporate systems (records management, property and rating, customer requests, GIS, Outlook, Word, Excel) is desirable.
• Previous experience reading meters and knowledge of the Tweed Shire water supply network is desirable.

Technical Assistant - Meter Reading and Inspections

Great opportunity to join Council in a permanent full-time position within our water meter reading team responsible for managing Council's fleet of over 27,000 water meters.

The position reads water meters and carries out on-site tests to ensure that meters are working properly and reliably. The position investigates and finds solutions for water consumption anomalies and meter faults. The role also implements, reviews and optimises the quarterly and monthly water meter reading programs and carries out special water meter reads for property conveyancing purposes.

This position is suitable to those who enjoy walking and working outdoors independently.

We are seeking:

• demonstrated working knowledge of water meters, water billing and water efficiency principles
• the ability to carry out maintenance tasks and on-site tests to ensure water meters are working correctly
• problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate professionally and courteously with members of the public
• previous experience with corporate business systems such as records management, property and rating, customer request, GIS systems, outlook, word and excel is desirable
• previous experience reading meters and knowledge of the Tweed Shire water supply network is desirable
