Tweed Shire Council invites applications for a Technical Assistant in the Meter Reading and Inspections team. The role is permanent full-time, based in Tweed Heads, with a commuter vehicle option and 12% super.

You will read water meters, conduct on-site tests and support water efficiency programs while working outdoors and independently. The position offers training and development opportunities and flexible work options to support a healthy work-life balance.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated working knowledge of water meters, water billing and water efficiency principles.
• Ability to carry out maintenance tasks and on-site tests to ensure meters are working correctly.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to communicate professionally with the public.
• Experience with corporate business systems such as records management, property and rating, customer requests, GIS systems, Outlook, Word and Excel desirable.
• Previous experience reading meters and knowledge of Tweed Shire water supply network desirable.

Responsibilities

• Read water meters and perform on-site tests to verify function and accuracy.
• Investigate and resolve anomalies in water consumption and meter faults.
• Implement, review and optimise quarterly and monthly meter reading programs.
• Conduct special meter reads for property conveyancing as required.
• Work outdoors, independently, with flexibility in work locations.

Technical Assistant - Meter Reading And Inspections

Great opportunity to join Council in a permanent full‑time position within our water meter reading team responsible for managing Council's fleet of over 27,000 water meters.

The position reads water meters and carries out on-site tests to ensure that meters are working properly and reliably. The position investigates and finds solutions for water consumption anomalies and meter faults. The role also implements, reviews and optimises the quarterly and monthly water meter reading programs and carries out special water meter reads for property conveyancing purposes.

This position is suitable to those who enjoy walking and working outdoors independently.

We are seeking:

• demonstrated working knowledge of water meters, water billing and water efficiency principles
