Job summary

Svitzer in Fremantle, WA, is hiring a Tug Master to lead a safety-focused crew on essential towage operations. You will command the tug, ensure readiness, and uphold maritime safety standards while coordinating maintenance and training. Relocation or proximity within two hours of the port is preferred.

Applicants should hold a Master <45m Near Coastal CoC, an LROCP or equivalent, and current AMSA medical, First Aid and CPR certificates. This role offers a dynamic maritime environment with strong teamwork.

Qualifications

• Experience supervising tug operations and crew safety.
• Valid maritime certificates as listed above.
• Ability to lead a safety-focused team on vessels.
• Willingness to relocate or live within two hours of Fremantle port.

Responsibilities

• Taking command of the tug and leading a capable, safety-focused crew.
• Ensuring the vessel is operationally ready, from stores and crew attendance to daily checks.
• Maintaining compliance with safety procedures and maritime regulations.
• Supporting crew performance and development, and escalating issues when needed.
• Assisting with vessel maintenance and keeping operational records accurate and up to date.
• Leading safety onboard through inductions, drills, and ongoing training.
• Sharing your knowledge and helping build capability across the team.
