Job summary

We are seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified Tug Masters to join our casual pool in Albany, WA. You’ll guide capable crews and deliver safe towage operations when required, reporting to the Port Manager and ensuring vessels are ready for service.

The role emphasizes leadership, safety, and adaptability, with allowances for relocation at the candidate’s expense and preference for those living near the port. This is a casual pool opportunity in a dynamic maritime environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum Master <45m Near Coastal Certificate of Competency or equivalent.
• Long-Range Operator Certificate of Proficiency (LROCP) or equivalent.
• A valid AMSA Medical that matches your Certificate of Competency.
• Current Provide First Aid and Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificates.
• Strong leadership and safety focus with a collaborative crew approach.
• Ability to stay calm, think clearly and adapt to changing conditions.
• The right to live and work in Australia.

Responsibilities

• Taking command of the tug and leading a capable, safety-focused crew.
• Ensuring the vessel is operationally ready - from stores and crew attendance to daily checks.
• Maintaining compliance with safety procedures and maritime regulations.
• Supporting crew performance and development, and escalating issues when needed.
• Assisting with vessel maintenance and keeping operational records accurate and up to date.
• Leading safety onboard through inductions, drills, and ongoing training.
• Sharing your knowledge and helping build capability across the team.
