Job summary

St Vincent de Paul Society NSW is seeking a Support Worker in Nowra to help people experiencing homelessness. You will work with our Case Management team to deliver practical and emotional support, connect clients with services and help maintain a safe, welcoming accommodation environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in homelessness, housing or community services is preferred.
• Understanding of trauma-informed, person-centred support approaches.
• Ability to work with diverse backgrounds and complex needs.
• Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• Good organisation and attention to detail, including records.
• Maintain composure and professionalism in challenging situations.
• Capable of independent work and collaborative teamwork.
• Flexible to work a range of shifts, including nights and public holidays.

Responsibilities

• Provide practical, emotional and person-centred support to clients per plans.
• Build respectful relationships with clients using trauma-informed approaches.
• Assist clients to access services and community supports; coordinate with Case Managers.
• Maintain accurate client records and daily documentation.
• Support a safe, welcoming accommodation environment and routines.
• Assist with orientation, room organisation, meals and standards.
• Help clients understand service guidelines and day-to-day needs.
• Encourage participation, connection and independence through activities.
• Advocate for clients and help navigate services and systems.
• Transport clients when required and support service quality standards.
• Contribute to a flexible roster including nights and weekends.
