Job summary

The Vinnies NSW invites applications for a Van Case Worker in Illawarra. You will provide professional case management and holistic support to people experiencing homelessness, housing instability and social isolation, collaborating with volunteers to deliver compassionate services.

You’ll assess needs, advocate, and connect clients with external supports while maintaining records and working within the SCHCADS framework. A TAFE Certificate IV or equivalent and strong communication are required.

Qualifications

  • TAFE Certificate IV or ongoing tertiary study in welfare or related field.
  • Experience supporting marginalised people.
  • Knowledge of homelessness issues and related services.
  • Knowledge of local community support services and NGOs.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Sound computer skills and WHS awareness.

  • Contribute to the implementation of the Strategic Plan and effective risk management practices.
  • Promote a safe, inclusive and respectful environment for staff, volunteers and clients.
  • Engage with people sleeping rough or at risk of homelessness.
  • Conduct client intake, assessment and case planning.
  • Provide information, advocacy, crisis intervention and ongoing support.
  • Connect clients with appropriate external services, education and life skills programs.
  • Develop collaborative partnerships with key stakeholders and service providers.
  • Maintain accurate client records, case notes and statistics.

Your Role

The Vinnies Van Case Worker provides professional case management and holistic support to people experiencing homelessness, housing instability, social isolation and other complex needs. The role works collaboratively with Vinnies Van volunteers, strengthening their capacity to provide informed, compassionate and effective support to people accessing the service.


Your Responsibility


  • Contribute to the implementation of the Strategic Plan and effective risk management practices.

  • Promote a safe, inclusive and respectful environment for staff, members, volunteers and clients.

  • Engage with people sleeping rough or at risk of homelessness.

  • Conduct client intake, assessment and case planning.

  • Provide information, advocacy, crisis intervention and ongoing support.

  • Connect clients with appropriate external services, education and life skills programs.

  • Provide additional support to people accessing Vinnies Van soft-entry services.

  • Develop collaborative partnerships with key stakeholders and service providers.

  • Support clients in a non-judgemental, inclusive and confidential manner.

  • Assist clients to understand and follow service rules and procedures.

  • Maintain accurate client records, case notes, statistics and data.


About You


  • Minimum TAFE Certificate IV or currently undertaking tertiary study, in welfare or related field.

  • Previous experience providing support to marginalised and vulnerable people support to homeless persons.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of issues relating to homelessness including but not limited to family breakdown, mental illness, drug, alcohol and gambling addictions.

  • Demonstrated awareness of appropriate local community support services for homeless clients, including government agencies and NGO’s, and the capacity to build and maintain strong relationships with such service providers.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Sound computer skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Awareness and understanding of the Work Health and Safety legislation and a commitment to promoting safe work practices.

  • Ability to use sound judgement and act appropriately in crisis and emergency situations.
