Job summary

Adecco is recruiting a hands-on Trade Assistant to join an established manufacturing operation in Nowra. The Trade Assistant will prepare stainless-steel components and orders before they reach the welding team, and will cut, grind, drill and prepare components from shop drawings and order specifications.

This role requires mechanical aptitude, comfort with hand and power tools, and the ability to read technical drawings while working accurately in a busy workshop environment.

Qualifications

• Trade/fabrication/sheet-metal or manufacturing experience is preferred.
• Ability to read technical/shop drawings and specifications.
• Experience using cutting, sawing, grinding and drilling equipment.
• Confidence with hand and power tools.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Prepare orders and components for the welding team
• Cut, grind and drill stainless-steel components
• Read shop drawings and order documentation
• Select the correct components for each order
• Cut materials accurately to required specifications
• Prepare product samples when required
• Complete grinding and product clean-up
• Safely operate cutting, sawing and drilling equipment
• Use hand and power tools
• Return unused materials and stock to designated racks
• Assist with general workshop and production duties
• Keep work areas clean and organised
• Follow site safety procedures and the Quality Management System
• Work alongside the wider production team to keep orders moving efficiently

This isn't simply a general labouring position. The Trade Assistant plays an important part in the production process, preparing stainless‑steel components and orders before they reach the welding team.

You’ll be cutting, grinding, drilling and preparing components from shop drawings and order specifications, so we’re looking for someone mechanically minded who is comfortable using tools and can work accurately.

Your Profile

We’re looking for someone with:

• Previous trade assistant, fabrication, sheet‑metal or manufacturing experience
• Basic sheet‑metal fabrication knowledge
• Ability to read technical/shop drawings and specifications
• Experience using cutting, sawing, grinding and drilling equipment
• Confidence using hand and power tools
• Good mechanical aptitude
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately
• Ability to follow measurements and specifications
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision
• Practical problem‑solving skills
• Reliable and hardworking attitude
• Willingness to muck in with general workshop duties
• Ability to work effectively as part of a production team
• Physical ability to regularly lift heavier items and undertake repetitive manual tasks
