Job summary

Programmed Skilled Workforce is seeking a Trade Assistant in Fyshwick to support workshop mechanics and electricians with cleaning, inspection, and preparation of a wide range of construction and industrial equipment. You will assist with basic maintenance, operate basic tools, and help with loading, unloading and movement around the workshop and yard.

The role emphasizes safety, accuracy of records, and collaboration with the workshop team.

Qualifications

• Forklift licence preferred.

• Familiarity with Take 5s and JSEAs is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Carry out cleaning, inspection and preparation tasks on a wide range of hire equipment.
• Assist with minor repairs, adjustments and basic maintenance tasks under qualified tradespeople.
• Use basic test instruments and equipment as required.
• Provide support to workshop mechanics and electricians to allow them to focus on repairs.
• Check and control equipment as it arrives into and leaves the yard, including spotting functions.
• Assist with safe loading, unloading, movement and positioning of equipment around the workshop and yard.
• Conduct basic equipment checks and report faults or maintenance needs.
• Assist with equipment inspections and ensure machinery is hire-ready and clean.
• Maintain accurate records and relevant documentation.
• Keep workshop, yard and service area clean, tidy and safe.
• Follow WHS procedures including Take 5s and JSEAs.

Our client, an equipment and machinery hire company based in Fyshwick, is seeking aTrade Assistantto join their team. This role will provide support to workshop mechanics and electricians, assisting with the cleaning, inspection, preparation and movement of a wide range of construction, industrial and power equipment.

The successful candidate will play an important role in ensuring equipment is maintained, presented and prepared for hire, while supporting the workshop team with day-to-day tasks.

Monday – Friday
7:00am – 3:30pm

Role Responsibilities:

• Carry out cleaning, inspection and preparation tasks on a wide range of hire equipment.
• Assist with minor repairs, adjustments and basic maintenance tasks under the direction of qualified tradespeople.
• Use basic test instruments and equipment as required.
• Provide support to workshop mechanics and electricians, allowing them to focus on equipment repairs and more complex tasks.
• Check and control equipment as it arrives into and leaves the yard, including carrying out the required spotting function.
• Assist with the safe loading, unloading, movement and positioning of equipment around the workshop and yard.
• Conduct basic equipment checks and report any faults, damage or maintenance requirements to the appropriate tradesperson or supervisor.
• Assist with equipment inspections and ensure machinery is presented in a clean, safe and hire-ready condition.
• Assist in maintaining accurate records and completing relevant documentation as required.
• Maintain a clean, tidy and safe workshop, yard and service area.
• Follow all workplace health and safety procedures, including the use of Take 5s and JSEAs.
• Work safely and collaboratively with mechanics, electricians and other members of the workshop team.

Candidate Requirements

The successful candidate will ideally have:

• Forklift High Risk Licence will be highly regarded.
• Good time management and organizational skills.
• A strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
• Physical fitness and the ability to work in a hands-on workshop and yard environment.
• Mechanical equipment knowledge or previous experience working around plant and equipment is desirable.
• Familiarity with Take 5s and JSEAs.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
