Job description

We're looking for a Technical Training Lead to help build the technical capability of our sales teams and strengthen our position as a trusted technical partner to the industry. This role is central to our commitment to the trade and our ‘Obsession with the Plumber’ strategy.

This role combines the best of both worlds. You'll have the opportunity to design impactful technical learning programmes, and facilitate hands‑on delivery and coaching of teams across Australia and New Zealand.

This is not a desk‑based training role. While you'll be based from our Prestons Centre of Excellence, you'll spend a significant portion of your time facilitating training, supporting sales teams in the field and engaging directly with customers and industry partners. You'll also play an important role in identifying capability gaps, developing practical learning solutions and continuously improving training programmes to ensure our people have the skills and confidence to succeed.

As our Technical Training Lead, you'll:

  • Facilitate engaging training experiences across a variety of formats, including classroom workshops, digital learning, one‑on‑one coaching and large‑group presentations.
  • Design, develop and deliver technical training programmes that build capability across our Sales, Customer Experience and Specialist teams.
  • Conduct training needs analysis and identify capability gaps, translating insights into practical learning solutions and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Coach and develop the technical capability of our sales and specialist teams through field support, joint customer visits and hands‑on learning.
  • Translate complex plumbing, product and compliance information into practical, easy‑to‑understand learning experiences.
  • Partner with Product, Marketing, Quality and R&D teams to ensure training content remains current and aligned with product innovation.
  • Support the day‑to‑day management and continuous improvement of our exciting new training facility in Prestons.
  • Build strong relationships across the plumbing industry, including merchants, plumbers, training organisations and industry partners.

You’ll be someone who:

Enjoys sharing knowledge and helping others succeed. You're equally comfortable standing in front of a room delivering training as you are working behind the scenes to develop learning solutions that improve capability and performance. You can simplify technical concepts, quickly build credibility with a wide range of audiences and genuinely enjoy helping people grow.

You’ll bring:

  • A plumbing trade background, completed apprenticeship, or strong technical experience within the plumbing, water or building products industry.
  • The ability to "speak plumber" while adapting your communication style to different audiences.
  • Experience designing and delivering training programmes, facilitating workshops or presenting to groups.
  • An understanding of how adults learn and the ability to translate technical information into engaging, practical learning experiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a natural ability to build credibility and relationships.
  • A customer‑focused mindset with a passion for continuous improvement and learning.
  • Availability for occasional travel locally and interstate as part of the role.
  • A Certificate IV in Training & Assessment (or similar) would be advantageous but is not essential.

This is a unique opportunity to combine your technical expertise with your passion for developing people. You'll have the opportunity to influence how technical capability is built across GWA, from identifying learning needs and designing programmes through to hands‑on facilitation and coaching in the field. You'll work closely with industry professionals, collaborate with cross‑functional teams and make full use of a purpose‑built training facility designed to showcase the best of our products and solutions.

If you're passionate about the trade, enjoy working with people and want to play a key role in developing the next generation of technical capability across our business, we'd love to hear from you.
