Job summary

Argo Coal Management's Ironbark site seeks a seasoned Superintendent of Technical Services to shape the operation's future performance. You will lead the site Technical Services team, connect mine planning, technical excellence and operational execution to deliver safe, productive and optimised outcomes.

This role demands extensive coal mining leadership, strong budgeting, and the ability to engage with site personnel across engineering, geology and development planning.

Responsibilities

• Provide oversight and leadership to the site Technical Services team.
• Coordinate short, medium and long‑term mine planning and design.
• Oversee surveying, ventilation and gas drainage, geology and geotech work.
• Support business development and optimisation aligned with operations.
• Manage budget, costs and performance improvement initiatives.

Job description

Ironbark No 1 mine is located in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, approximately 30km north-east of Moranbah and 160km from Mackay and forms part of the broader Argo Complex. This integrated mining complex includes the Carborough Board & Pillar and Broadlea Open Cut Mines, as well as a centralised Coal Handling and Preparation Plant (CHPP), where collaboration between our sites and teams is key to delivering safe and efficient outcomes.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

This is a rare opportunity to take a leading technical role at Ironbark, with the influence to shape the future performance of the operation. As the Superintendent of the site-based Technical Services team you will be a key member of the Site Leadership Team, you will play a critical role in connecting mine planning, technical excellence and operational execution to deliver safe, productive and optimised mining outcomes. Provide oversight and leadership to the site based technical services team. Communicate, liaise and constructively engage with key site personnel regarding operational, technical and safety related matters. Short, medium and long term mine planning and design activities including Mine design, scheduling and Development of plans to maximise mine optimisation. Responsible for (but not limited to): Surveying Ventilation & Gas Drainage Mine Planning Geology & Geotech Business development support Management of optimisation and process improvement in conjunction with operational requirements.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR FROM YOU

• Extensive experience in a similar position within coal
• Relevant tertiary qualifications
• Experience managing and leading teams - internally as well as contractor management and performance
• Have a strong understanding and ability to oversee system reviews, refinement and carry out implementations for improvement initiatives
• Have experience in managing and maintaining budget and cost control processes
• Be decisive, accountable and able to make things happens.
• Bring a positive attitude, resilience and the ability to build strong relationships
