Job summary

Mission Australia is seeking a State Manager, Housing Operations to lead statewide Housing Services, Asset Services and Community Development, building strong relationships with government, partners and tenants in Darwin. You will drive service excellence, compliance and integrated service delivery while guiding a values-based team to deliver safe, stable homes and stronger communities.

This role is based in Darwin with a 35-hour-per-week, full-time permanent contract and a salary of $156,000

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years’ senior operational leadership experience in housing or related sector.
• Tertiary qualifications in business, social housing or related field desirable.
• Strong knowledge of NT social housing systems incl. tenancy, asset management and community development
• Proven contract, compliance and risk management capability.
• High financial literacy: budgets, forecasts and maintenance plans; analyse KPIs.
• Strong project management across multiple initiatives with a continuous improvement mindset.
• Inclusive, values‑based people leadership - coach teams, set clear expectations.
• Exceptional stakeholder engagement and communication with government, regulators, funders and partners.
• Current WWCC and Drivers Licence.

• Manage operational budgets and forecasts, lead asset management and community development plans and financial reporting.
• Engage and influence stakeholders including government, regulators, funders, and partners and collaborate across Mission Australia to deliver cohesive services.
• Lead continuous improvement: training and development, succession planning, and targeted service improvement initiatives.

Your opportunity

As the State Manager, Housing Operations, you will be the face of Mission Australia Housing (MAH) across the Northern Territory, building strong relationships with government, community partners, service providers and tenants.

Leading housing services, asset management and community development, you will guide an inclusive, values-based team to deliver safe, stable homes and stronger communities. You will drive service excellence, performance and compliance, while championing integrated service delivery and continuous improvement.

As a trusted ambassador for the organisation, you will strengthen partnerships, advocate for community needs and create meaningful social impact across the Northern Territory.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

• Lead and develop statewide operations across Housing Services, Asset Services and Community Development, providing values‑based people leadership.


• Champion an integrated service delivery approach - oversee the Local Area Plan and Business Plan, refine service models, and implement new programs to strengthen communities.


• Set clear KPIs and performance expectations; monitor weekly/monthly/quarterly results, analyse data, and drive improvements.


• Ensure contractual, regulatory and funder compliance; manage risk and quality and maintain accurate data in internal systems.


• Manage operational budgets and forecasts, lead your team on asset management and community development plans and financial performance reporting.


• Engage and influence stakeholders including government, regulators, funders, & partners and collaborate across Mission Australia to deliver cohesive services.


• Lead continuous improvement: establish cyclical training and development, succession planning, and targeted service improvement initiatives.

Requirements for success

• Minimum 3 years’ senior operational leadership experience, ideally in the social and affordable housing sector.


• Tertiary qualifications in business, social housing or a related field are desirable.


• Strong knowledge of the Northern Territory’s social housing systems, including tenancy, asset management and community development


• Proven contract, compliance and risk management capability.


• High financial literacy: manage budgets, forecasts and maintenance plans; analyse KPIs and performance data to drive results.


• Strong project management skills across multiple concurrent initiatives, with a continuous improvement mindset.


• Inclusive, values‑based people leadership - coach teams, set clear expectations, and lift performance.


• Exceptional stakeholder engagement and communication skills—partner effectively with government, regulators, funders, community partners and internal teams.


• Current valid WWCC and Drivers Licence
