Job description

Lead from the front, shift the culture and build a high-performing Home Assessing function

This is a rare opportunity for an experienced Home Assessing leader to take ownership of a significant function and make a visible impact. You’ll lead a team of leaders, influence operational strategy and have the autonomy to challenge existing ways of working and lift performance.

This is not a role for someone who wants to sit behind a desk. The successful person will be a hands-on leader who is prepared to roll up their sleeves, get on the tools and undertake assessing themselves when required, while also building the capability and accountability of the wider team.

The role is five days per week in the office, with the successful candidate able to be based from either Sunshine or Alphington.

Who will you be working with?

You’ll join an established insurance business with a significant Home Assessing operation and a clear focus on improving performance, customer outcomes and commercial results.

The business is looking for a leader who can make a genuine difference to the culture of the function. You’ll lead four direct reports across On-Road Assessing, Desktop Assessing and Repair Relationship functions, with the opportunity to influence how the broader team operates and performs.

The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership experience and the confidence to make decisions, hold people accountable and create momentum. Equally, this could suit a dynamic, driven and highly motivated emerging leader who has the technical capability, commercial mindset and ambition to step into a larger leadership opportunity.

You’ll work closely with senior stakeholders across Claims, Operations, Procurement and the wider business, giving you genuine exposure and influence beyond the Home Assessing function.

What are the benefits?
  • Senior leadership role with genuine influence across the business
  • Opportunity to reshape culture and establish a high-performance environment
  • Lead and develop a team of experienced professionals and leaders
  • Hands-on role with scope to remain connected to assessing
  • Strong exposure to senior internal and external stakeholders
  • Opportunity for an enhanced package for an exceptional candidate
What will you be doing?
  • Lead the Victorian Home Assessing function across On-Road Assessing, Desktop Assessing and Repair Relationship functions, setting clear expectations and driving a high-performance culture
  • Develop and lead four direct reports through coaching, accountability, capability building and regular performance reviews
  • Establish effective operating rhythms, quality standards and performance measures to improve consistency, productivity and outcomes across the function
  • Remain hands-on with assessing, supporting the team on complex matters and providing technical leadership when required
  • Partner with Procurement and key stakeholders to manage supplier selection, capacity, capability, cost and service performance
  • Build strong relationships across Claims, Operations and external stakeholders, while leading complex escalations, negotiations and high-profile supplier disputes
  • Identify and lead initiatives that improve performance, customer outcomes and operational efficiency, ensuring change is embedded across the broader function
What do you need?
  • Strong leadership experience within Home Assessing, building repair or restoration
  • Ideally 5+ years' senior leadership experience, including leading leaders
  • Proven ability to shift culture, lift performance and create accountability
  • Strong technical knowledge of home assessing and the building repair environment
  • A hands-on leadership style and willingness to remain connected to the tools
  • Strong commercial acumen, communication and stakeholder management skills

If you're a strong leader who can walk onto a team, earn their respect and genuinely change the trajectory of its performance, this could be the opportunity you've been waiting for. Equally, if you're a driven and ambitious Home Assessing professional ready to step into a significant leadership role, we'd like to hear from you.
