Job summary

Commonwealth Bank is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the design and delivery of secure, scalable full‑stack software across multiple squads within the Complex Investigations group. You will drive technical direction from solution design through to production, shaping modern web applications and backend services in a cloud-native environment.

You will mentor engineers, lead architecture reviews, and champion automated testing, observability and secure-by-design practices to deliver

Qualifications

• Lead design and delivery of secure, scalable, full-stack software.
• Experience across frontend, backend and APIs with microservices.
• Strong cloud experience, CI/CD and DevSecOps practices.
• Experience with TDD/BDD and test automation.
• Observability and reliability practices across apps.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain high-quality, scalable full‑stack software across multiple teams.
• Lead solution and software design, making architectural decisions balancing outcomes, quality, security and maintainability.
• Build modern web applications using frontend frameworks and engineering practices.
• Design backend services, APIs, microservices and distributed systems.
• Establish API contracts and integration patterns across applications.
• Implement cloud-native designs with containers, orchestration and IaC.
• Build CI/CD capabilities enabling frequent, secure software delivery.
• Champion automated testing across unit to E2E layers.
• Improve observability, resilience and proactive monitoring.
• Apply DevSecOps and secure-by-design principles throughout the SDLC.
• Lead root-cause analysis of production issues and address technical debt.
• Mentor engineers and foster collaboration and continuous improvement.
