Commonwealth Bank is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to lead hands-on engineering and platform enablement across a large Business Banking tech environment. You will shape engineering standards, uplift developer experience and promote modern ways of working, including cloud, automation and AI-powered practices.

As part of the Engineering and Platforms Centre of Excellence, you will provide technical leadership across Everyday Business Banking, building practical solutions, strengthening

Qualifications

• Strong software engineering fundamentals.
• Language-agnostic mindset with experience in multiple languages.
• Deep understanding of modern software delivery, including DevSecOps and observability.
• Experience designing, building and operating cloud solutions, preferably on AWS, with IaC and CD pipelines.
• Experience with containers, platform runtime patterns, secure engineering and IAM.

Responsabilités

• Provide hands-on technical leadership, mentoring senior engineers.
• Design, build and evolve platforms, tools and reusable capabilities.
• Establish engineering standards, patterns, guardrails and golden paths.
• Uplift squads' engineering practices and support adoption.
• Champion automation and AI-powered approaches across the software delivery lifecycle.
• Improve developer experience through self-service capabilities and standardized pipelines.
• Collaborate with architecture, security, risk, data and engineering teams to deliver enterprise-aligned solutions.
• Strengthen observability, reliability, performance and cost optimisation as part of daily engineering.
