Job summary

Commonwealth Bank in Sydney or Melbourne is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for Payments Technology to shape secure, scalable payment platforms and lead technical direction. You will work across API products, microservices and AI-enabled practices to deliver reliable services at scale.

You will mentor engineers, drive architecture decisions, modernise platforms using AWS, Kubernetes and event-driven patterns, and partner with product, security and operations to create first-class customer

Qualifications

Experience solving complex technical problems and influencing engineering direction.
Deep expertise across backend and API development with Java, Spring Boot, Node.js and TypeScript.
Experience with cloud-native architectures (AWS) and event-driven systems (Kafka).

Responsibilities

Provide technical leadership across teams, influencing engineering direction, architecture and technical standards.
Design, build and evolve secure, scalable and resilient software platforms and distributed systems.
Lead architecture and design decisions and help modernise platforms using cloud-native and event-driven approaches.
Champion engineering excellence across software quality, testing, observability, security, resilience and operational excellence.
Foster a strong DevSecOps culture from design through to deployment and production operations.
Mentor engineers, grow technical capability and support the adoption of modern and AI-enabled engineering practices.
