Job summary

Canva is seeking a senior Mobile Build Systems Engineer to own the native build, release, and monorepo foundations for iOS and Android. You will shape Bazel rules, React Native bundling, and the release pipeline, guiding teams across Canva to improve build reliability and cadence.

You’ll drive a multi-platform strategy that aligns mobile with web tooling, while leading long-term architectural decisions and mentoring engineers to raise the bar across the organization.

Qualifications

• Deep, hands-on experience with Bazel, Gradle, or Xcode at production scale.
• Track record delivering complex cross-team projects like migrations or monorepo builds.
• Strong native iOS/Android background with a view on cross-platform tooling benefits.

Responsibilities

• Own the architecture roadmap for Bazel build rules, RN bundling and codegen, balancing short-term fixes with long-term foundations.
• Mature Canva's mobile release and deployment tooling, including OTA and staged rollout for predictable shipping.
• Lead the staged migration of mobile repos into Canva's monorepo, maintaining build/test/release continuity.
• Set the quality gating strategy across the build pipeline, surfacing reliability and speed issues early.
• Evolve the React Native build pipeline into a shared foundation serving web and mobile.
• Collaborate across Mobile Workflows, Cross Platform, Build Platform and DevX to unify tooling.
• Mentor engineers to ensure the standards outlive individual projects.
