Job summary

Canva is seeking a senior engineer to own mobile build and release foundations. You will define Bazel rules, monorepo migration, and the React Native build pipeline, shaping how iOS and Android are built and released at scale.

You will establish engineering standards, build reliable CI/CD pipelines, and collaborate with Mobile Workflows, Cross Platform, and DevX to unify tooling. This role focuses on long-term architecture with a 12-month horizon and significant influence.

Qualifications

• Deep, hands-on expertise with Bazel, Gradle, or Xcode build systems at production scale.
• Track record of scoping and delivering complex projects across teams — migrations, monorepo consolidation, or build infrastructure at scale.
• Strong native engineering background in iOS and Android, with a point of view on cross-platform tooling.
• Experience owning CI/CD or release pipelines that other teams depend on, not just contributing.
• Strategic judgment: balance short-term delivery with long-term architecture and standards.

Responsibilities

• Own the roadmap for Bazel build rules, React Native bundling, and codegen for mobile.
• Mature mobile release tooling including OTA and staged rollout for predictable shipping.
• Lead staged migration of mobile repos into Canva's monorepo, ensuring build/test/release continuity.
• Set quality gates and CI/CD strategy across the build pipeline.
• Evolve the React Native build pipeline into a shared foundation for web and mobile.
• Collaborate across Mobile Workflows, Cross Platform, Build Platform and DevX to unify tooling.
• Mentor engineers to ensure durable, scalable standards.
