Site Engineer, Ongoing and Full-time, Canberra

About the Opportunity

We are recruiting on behalf of an established construction company delivering complex projects across the Canberra region. This is a great opportunity for a capable Site Engineer to join a business known for its technical rigour, collaborative culture and strong pipeline of work.

You will provide onsite engineering support across design, construction methodology, quality and cost control, working closely with the Project Manager to keep delivery on programme, on budget and to the highest safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the design development process, providing input on constructability, quality, suitability and construction cost.
• Manage short term planning, programming and scheduling for works under your control.
• Coordinate the preparation, issue and closeout of tender packages, and contribute to evaluation of tenders and recommendations.
• Monitor construction costs and contribute to the costing of contract variations, including verification of subcontractor claims and variations.
• Track progress and productivity, maintaining accurate and traceable records including site diaries and photographs.
• Take prompt corrective action and report proactively where programme, budget, productivity, quality, safety or environmental targets are at risk.
• Contribute to methods development and ensure agreed methods are clearly understood by site teams.
• Plan and implement surveillance of subcontractors and suppliers to verify conformance of works.
• Manage verification of conformance including ITPs, samples and prototypes, lot registers, inspections, tests and conformance certification.
• Maintain document control, including revision and issue control of construction drawings and specifications.
• Recommend design changes that improve construction efficiency and reduce cost, and support temporary works design where required.
• Champion the company's commitment to Health, Safety and Environmental practice and to its Business Management System.

What You Will Bring

• A minimum of 2 years of commercial experience is essential.
• A proven track record in the management and administration of construction matters on live projects.
• Strong commercial acumen, with confidence managing cost, programme and contract variations.
• A methodical approach to quality assurance, document control and conformance verification.
• Clear communication skills and the ability to build strong working relationships with project teams, subcontractors and suppliers.
• A Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of Architecture, Bachelor of Applied Science in Environmental Design, Bachelor of Construction Management and Economics, or another appropriate qualification, or equivalent industry experience at a managerial level.
