Job Overview

Our client is a well-established Australian provider of industrial automation, packaging and production technology, supporting manufacturers with advanced equipment and ongoing technical service. They are seeking an experienced Service & Installation Technician to take ownership of servicing their South Australian customer base. The position covers installation, commissioning, preventative maintenance and breakdown support across equipment including coding and labelling systems, robotic palletising, inspection equipment and packaging machinery.

This is a highly autonomous, field-based position suited to someone who enjoys troubleshooting machinery, working directly with customers and managing their own workload. You'll be based in South Australia and supported by the wider interstate technical team while working closely with the local Sales Engineer and internal customer service team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install and commission new industrial packaging and automation equipment at customer sites.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical and control system faults, providing effective breakdown support and minimising customer downtime.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing to improve machinery reliability and lifespan.
  • Troubleshoot PLC-controlled machinery, sensors, drives, HMIs and associated automation systems.
  • Provide ongoing technical support across a diverse portfolio of industrial equipment.
  • Train customers in the correct operation and maintenance of machinery.
  • Work closely with sales and customer service teams to scope installations, service requirements and spare parts.
  • Coordinate scheduled maintenance, installations and breakdown response across the South Australian customer base.
  • Complete service reports, timesheets, safety documentation and other required service records.
  • Deliver a high standard of customer service while working independently in the field.
About You
  • Trade qualified in Electrical, Mechanical, Electromechanical or a related technical discipline.
  • Previous experience in a field service, installation, commissioning or maintenance position working with industrial machinery.
  • Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding skills, with the ability to methodically diagnose and resolve machinery issues.
  • Experience installing and commissioning equipment within customer or production environments.
  • Comfortable working with automated machinery incorporating PLCs, sensors, drives and HMIs.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working autonomously in a field-based position.
  • Strong customer-facing communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to interpret electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, technical manuals and machinery documentation.
  • Experience within food, beverage, packaging or industrial manufacturing would be highly regarded.
  • Exposure to coding and labelling equipment, stretch wrappers, robotic palletisers, checkweighers, metal detectors, X-ray inspection systems or case packing equipment would be advantageous.
  • An Electrical Licence and/or PLC and automation training would be advantageous.
  • Current driver's licence and a strong commitment to safe working practices.
What's On Offer
  • Autonomous South Australia-based field service role with ownership of a local customer base.
  • Work across a diverse range of packaging, inspection and automation technology.
  • Exposure to equipment including coding and labelling systems, robotic palletising, stretch wrapping and inspection technology.
  • Combination of troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, installations and commissioning rather than repetitive service work.
  • Support from an established interstate technical and customer service team.
  • Opportunity to continue developing your electrical, mechanical and automation expertise.

If you're an experienced Service Technician who enjoys fault finding, working autonomously and getting hands-on with industrial automation and packaging equipment, we'd love to hear from you.
