About you

You have demonstrated experience in a hands on operational communications environment and can think strategically while remaining responsive in the moment. You are curious and able to integrate different perspectives, translating complex information during major incidents and events into clear, timely advice for the public, key stakeholders and executives.

This is a challenging, high pressure and rewarding role that requires sound judgement and confident decision making in a live 24/7 operations centre. You lead with courage, care and authenticity, remaining resilient under pressure while creating trust and psychological safety. You empower others by setting clear expectations, entrusting team members with responsibility, coaching capability and supporting them to make accountable decisions.

Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline, such as communications, and/or relevant industry experience in operations rooms or emergency services are ideal. You can identify issues involving significant risk or potential public exposure and lead a measured, evidence based response. You make sustainable and resourceful choices, balance immediate operational needs with longer term outcomes, and use feedback and continuous learning to improve team performance. Familiarity with technologies such as film, radio and content management systems is also desirable.
