Job summary

nicriel is seeking a Senior Project Engineer for a twelve-month fixed-term contract to lead end-to-end engineering projects from concept to handover. You will manage capital infrastructure, site developments, plant upgrades and process improvements alongside senior engineers and scientists in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.

Qualifications

• Degree or trade qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, Process, or Mechatronics Engineering (or a related discipline).
• Experience: 8+ years delivering engineering projects including design, installation and commissioning—ideally in technology, innovation, or heavy manufacturing/building materials.

Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver capital, building, site, and R&D engineering projects on time, safely and within budget.
• Oversee scope definition, planning, stakeholder engagement, design coordination, procurement, contractor management, and handover.
• Plan, execute, and evaluate trials for new and existing machinery, technologies and products.
• Investigate, troubleshoot and resolve complex equipment and process issues using structured problem-solving methods.
• Build collaborative relationships with internal teams, vendors and contractors to drive seamless project execution.
• Ensure WHS, environmental and regulatory compliance across all project phases.

About the Role

They are now seeking a driven Senior Project Engineer for a twelve-month fixed-term contract.
In this role, you will take ownership of delivering end-to-end engineering projects—ranging from capital infrastructure, site developments, plant upgrades and process improvements. You will work alongside leading engineers and scientists, managing project lifecycles from initial concept through to execution, trial evaluation, and handover.

Key Responsibilities

• Project Delivery: Lead and execute capital, building, site, and R&D engineering projects, ensuring outcomes are achieved safely, on time, within budget, and to required quality standards.
• Full Lifecycle Management: Oversee scope definition, planning, stakeholder engagement, design coordination, procurement, contractor management, and project commissioning/handover.
• Trials & Innovation: Lead and support the planning, trial execution, and evaluation of new and existing machinery, technologies, and manufacturing products.
• Continuous Improvement & Troubleshooting: Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve complex equipment and process issues using structured problem-solving methodologies.
• Stakeholder & Vendor Management: Build collaborative relationships with internal teams, external vendors, and contractors to drive seamless project execution.
• Safety & Compliance: Drive strict adherence to WHS, environmental, and regulatory standards across all site activities and project phases.

Key Skills & Experience Required

Skills & Knowledge

• Project Management: Proven ability to manage multidisciplinary projects, scope, schedules, budgets, risk, and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Technical Problem-Solving: High-level analytical skills to troubleshoot complex equipment, evaluate engineering solutions, and read/develop technical, safety, and contract documentation.
• Contractor & Procurement Management: Hands-on experience managing external vendors, service providers, and contractors.
• CAD Proficiency: Competency in CAD modelling and familiarity with Autodesk software products.
• Compliance Standards: Strong understanding of safety requirements, engineering standards, and regulatory compliance within heavy industrial environments.

Qualifications & Experience

• Education: Degree or trade qualified in Mechanical, Electrical, Process, or Mechatronics Engineering (or a related discipline).
• Experience: 8+ years of relevant experience in engineering project delivery, including design, installation, and commissioning—ideally in a technology, innovation, or heavy manufacturing/building materials environment.
• Multidisciplinary Projects: Demonstrated background taking multidisciplinary engineering projects from concept stage through to complete design and procurement documentation.
