Job summary

Mission Australia in Sydney seeks a Senior Internal Communications Officer to craft compelling stories, lead campaigns and connect our people nationally. You will help shape how we inform and inspire staff across the organisation.

You will develop strategic internal communications plans, advise leaders, and manage channels, building engagement and ensuring messages are accessible to a diverse workforce.

Qualifications

• Qualified in communications, journalism, PR or digital content, or equivalent experience.
• Proven experience delivering strategic communication plans, campaigns and engagement initiatives.
• Experience partnering with senior leaders to influence outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver strategic internal communication plans aligned to organisational priorities.
• Provide expert communication guidance to leaders and project teams across the organisation.
• Create clear, engaging content translating complex information into meaningful messages.
• Lead high-quality written, visual and multimedia content including leadership communications and internal campaigns.
• Manage and optimise internal communication channels to ensure content is relevant and accessible.
• Drive employee engagement through storytelling that celebrates people and achievements.
• Support major projects with communication strategies to build understanding and adoption.
• Monitor effectiveness, analyse engagement insights and recommend improvements.
• Mentor and support team members with knowledge sharing and best practices.

As our Senior Internal Communications Officer, you will play a pivotal role in bringing our mission to life by crafting compelling stories, leading impactful communication initiatives and connecting our people nationally. Your key responsibilities will be to:

• Develop and deliver strategic internal communication plans that support organisational priorities and initiatives.
• Provide expert communication advice and guidance to leaders, stakeholders and project teams across the organisation.
• Create clear, engaging and audience-focused content that translates complex information into meaningful messages.
• Lead the development of high-quality written, visual and multimedia content, including leadership communications, internal campaigns and organisational updates.
• Manage and optimise internal communication channels, ensuring content is relevant, engaging and accessible.
• Drive employee engagement through impactful storytelling that celebrates people, client outcomes and organisational achievements.
• Support major projects and transformation initiatives with communication strategies that build understanding, engagement and adoption.
• Monitor communication effectiveness, analyse engagement insights and recommend continuous improvements to channel performance and audience reach.
• Mentor and support team members by sharing knowledge, best practice and innovative communication approaches.

Requirements for success

• Qualifications in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Digital Content, Community Engagement or a related discipline, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
• Proven experience developing and delivering strategic communication plans, campaigns and engagement initiatives.
• Experience partnering with senior leaders and stakeholders to provide trusted communication advice and influence outcomes.
• Demonstrated success working in complex, geographically dispersed organisations with diverse audiences.
• Experience managing and optimising digital communication platforms, including SharePoint, Microsoft Teams and employee engagement channels.
• Proficiency in video production, photography, editing and multimedia storytelling, with a focus on creating accessible and engaging content.
• Excellent written communication, proofreading and editing skills, with the ability to translate complex information into clear and meaningful messages.
• A collaborative, proactive and solutions-focused approach, with strong project management skills, sound judgement and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
