Job summary

SGS Australia is seeking an Electrical Protection Engineer to join a specialist team delivering testing, maintenance and commissioning services across electrical infrastructure. You will provide expertise in protection systems for substations, switchgear, transformers and HV equipment, combining field testing with technical reporting and customer support.

This hands‑on role requires experience with MV/HV equipment, relay testing and fault diagnosis, with a focus on safety, standards compliance

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering.
• Current WA C Class Driver’s Licence.
• Experience with MV/HV switchgear, transformers, HV cables, switchboards and circuit breakers.
• Proven experience producing technical reports and accurately recording test data.
• Ability to read and interpret single‑line diagrams.
• Strong communication, organisational and time management skills.
• Electrical Workers Level “A” Licence.
• Experience using testing equipment such as Omicron, Doble and Megger.
• Experience supporting growth and development within HV electrical market.

Responsibilities

• Conduct protection relay testing, commissioning and maintenance of substations.
• Perform transformer, circuit breaker, cable and earth testing.
• Carry out thermography and corona inspections on electrical assets.
• Undertake fault finding, testing, repair and maintenance of low‑voltage and high‑voltage electrical equipment.
• Read and interpret single‑line diagrams to support testing and maintenance activities.
• Produce accurate testing records and formal technical reports.
• Work in accordance with relevant statutory regulations, SGS procedures and client requirements.
• Conduct site safety assessments and ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and industry best practice.
• Liaise with clients to understand project requirements, provide technical advice and ensure customer satisfaction.
• Perform equipment calibration checks and maintain testing instruments in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
• Identify and document preventative maintenance requirements to optimise asset performance and reliability.
