Job summary

SGS Australia seeks an Electrical Protection Engineer to join a specialist team delivering testing, maintenance and commissioning across electrical infrastructure. You will provide expertise on protection systems, substations, switchgear and HV assets in a hands‑on field role.

You will perform protection relay testing, fault finding, and produce technical reports while liaising with clients to meet project requirements and uphold safety standards.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering.
• Current WA C Class Driver’s Licence.
• Experience with MV/HV switchgear, transformers, HV cables, switchboards and circuit breakers.
• Proven experience producing technical reports and recording test data.
• Ability to read and interpret single‑line diagrams.
• Strong communication, organisational and time management skills.
• Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Conduct protection relay testing, commissioning and maintenance of substations
• Perform transformer, circuit breaker, cable and earth testing
• Read and interpret single‑line diagrams to support testing and maintenance activities
• Produce accurate testing records and formal technical reports
• Liaise with clients to understand project requirements and provide technical advice
• Work in accordance with relevant regulations, SGS procedures and client requirements
• Conduct site safety assessments and ensure compliance with health and safety legislation
• Identify and document preventative maintenance requirements to optimise asset performance
