Job summary

SGS Australia is seeking an Electrical Protection Engineer to join our specialist team delivering testing, maintenance and commissioning services across electrical infrastructure. The role combines field work with reporting and client liaison, requiring hands-on expertise with protection systems, substations and HV equipment.

You will conduct protection relay testing, fault finding and maintenance, interpret single-line diagrams and contribute to technical reports while ensuring compliance with

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Current WA C Class Driver's Licence.
• Experience with MV/HV switchgear, transformers, HV cables, switchboards and circuit breakers.
• Experience producing technical reports and recording test data.
• Ability to read and interpret single-line diagrams.
• Strong communication and time management skills.
• Able to work autonomously and with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Conduct protection relay testing, commissioning and maintenance of substations.
• Perform transformer, circuit breaker, cable and earth testing.
• Carry out thermography and corona inspections on electrical assets.
• Undertake fault finding, testing, repair and maintenance of LV/HV electrical equipment.
• Read and interpret single-line diagrams to support testing and maintenance.
• Produce accurate testing records and formal technical reports.
• Work in accordance with regulations, SGS procedures and client requirements.
• Conduct site safety assessments and ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and industry best practice.
• Liaise with clients to understand project requirements and provide technical advice.
