Job summary

HPS Contractors in Cairns is seeking a skilled Roller Operator / All Rounder to join on a casual basis. Based in Cairns, you will operate rollers, assist with earthmoving tasks, and may drive water or tip trucks on varied civil projects.

The role requires a current LR licence and safety focus; HR licence and GPS experience are highly desirable. You will work closely with supervisors to meet timelines while upholding high safety standards.

Qualifications

• Current Heavy Equipment Operator's Licence (Class LR or equivalent) or state-based licence
• Experience operating Rollers on civil construction sites
• Ability to interpret site plans and instructions from supervisors
• Safety-focused with knowledge of site protocols

Responsibilities

• Perform daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance checks

Job description

HPS Contractors is seeking a skilled and experienced Roller Operator / All Rounder - Civil Construction to join our team on a casual basis. A HR License and experience with Final Trim and Trimble or similar GPS an advantage though not a requirement.

This is a hands-on position based in Cairns, QLD 4870, where you will operate Roller and other equipment and may be called on to operate water and tip trucks on various civil construction projects. You will play a crucial role in site preparation, earthmoving, and excavation activities that are fundamental to the success of our construction operations. This role offers flexibility and the opportunity to work on diverse projects within the civil construction sector.

What you’ll be doing

• Operating Rollers and other heavy machinery safely and efficiently on civil construction sites
• Conducting daily equipment inspections and performing routine maintenance checks
• Working closely with site supervisors and other team members to ensure project timelines are met
• Adhering to all health and safety regulations, including wearing personal protective equipment and following site safety protocols
• Positioning and manoeuvring equipment to complete excavation tasks with precision
• Communicating effectively with spotters and ground personnel to maintain a safe working environment
• Maintaining accurate records of equipment operation and site activities

What we’re looking for

• Current Heavy Equipment Operator's Licence (Class LR or equivalent) or relevant state-based qualification
• Proven experience operating Rollers in civil construction environments
• Strong knowledge of health and safety requirements and site safety protocols
• Ability to interpret site plans, blueprints, and verbal instructions from supervisors
• Excellent spatial awareness and hand-eye coordination
• Mechanical aptitude and understanding of equipment maintenance and troubleshooting
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Reliability and a punctual approach to work
• Experience with various excavator types and attachments, HR license and GPS experience is highly desirable
• Current First Aid certification is preferred
