Job summary

SMEC is seeking a recent Graduate Mechanical Engineer to join our Rail & Metro team in North Sydney. You’ll contribute to design, analysis and documentation on major rail projects from day one, learning from experienced engineers and participating in live site work.

Our two‑year Graduate Development Program combines hands‑on project experience with structured learning, mentoring and cross‑disciplinary exposure, plus a supportive ANZ graduate network and ongoing development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Exposure to design tools such as AutoCAD or Civil 3D (12D or similar advantageous).

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the delivery of real projects by supporting design development, including drawings, models and technical documentation.
• Assist with engineering calculations and analysis across areas such as roads, drainage or structures under guidance from senior engineers.
• Participate in site visits and inspections to understand how designs are implemented on live projects.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate design inputs and support project delivery milestones.
• Learn and apply industry standards, tools and best practice through structured development and on‑job experience.
