Qualifications

• Completed culinary apprenticeship or equivalent chef qualification.

• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen.
• Current food handling certification is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Preparing and cooking a variety of dishes according to established recipes and plating standards.
• Maintaining high standards of food hygiene, safety and cleanliness in the kitchen.
• Assisting with food preparation, including chopping, marinating and portioning ingredients.
• Working collaboratively with kitchen staff to ensure smooth service during busy periods.
• Following standardised cooking methods and presentation guidelines to ensure consistency.
• Monitoring stock levels and assisting with ordering where required.
• Contributing to the development and refinement of menu items.
• Supporting the training and guidance of junior kitchen staff where applicable.

Horseshoe Bay Cafe’ is seeking a Qualified Chef to join our culinary team in Bowen, QLD. This is a casual position for an immediate start, that offers flexibility whilst allowing you to contribute to our kitchen operations. Whether you are a fully qualified chef looking for casual work or an apprentice in the final stages of your training, this role will provide you with the opportunity to develop your skills in a dynamic hospitality environment. You will be based in Bowen and will be part of a team dedicated to delivering quality food and excellent service to our guests.

Key responsibilities

• Preparing and cooking a variety of dishes according to established recipes and plating standards
• Maintaining high standards of food hygiene, safety and cleanliness in the kitchen
• Assisting with food preparation, including chopping, marinating and portioning ingredients
• Working collaboratively with kitchen staff to ensure smooth service during busy periods

What we’re looking for

• Completed culinary apprenticeship or equivalent qualification as a chef, or current 3rd or 4th year apprentice undertaking formal training
• Sound knowledge of food safety, hygiene standards and kitchen best practices
• Proficiency in food preparation, cooking techniques and knife skills
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering consistent quality
• Good communication skills and ability to work well as part of a team
• Flexibility and reliability in a casual working arrangement
• Current food handling or equivalent certification is advantageous
• Experience in a commercial kitchen environment is preferred
