We are seeking an experienced and motivated Project Officer to support the delivery of strategic projects and initiatives across the Far Western Zone.
The Project Officer is a key administrative and project support role within the Far Western Zone Office. Working closely with senior staff, the position provides practical assistance to Local Aboriginal Land Councils across the Zone to strengthen governance, improve organisational capacity, and support the delivery of Local Aboriginal Land Council priorities.
The role assists in the development and implementation of effective policies, procedures, reporting frameworks and internal controls that enable LALCs to operate efficiently and effectively. This position requires a highly organised individual with strong communication skills, sound administrative capabilities and a commitment to supporting Aboriginal communities and organisations.
KEY OUTCOMES/ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Assessing the needs of Local Aboriginal Land Councils and through the assessment process identify critical issues that are affecting their operations;
- Perform administrative functions of the Zone Office in support of Senior staff as required;
- Report on a regular basis the progress of assistance being provided to Local Aboriginal Land Councils; in the development of CLBPs including land and property management identifying achievable goals that will enhance Local Aboriginal Land Councils capacity to deliver effective and efficient services to its clients and Land Development, Business and other Economic Development projects/program;.
- Establish sound rapport with Local Aboriginal Land Councils, travelling widely across the Zone and providing on-the-spot assistance and guidance;
- Compliance with the NSWALC Funding Agreement, legislative timetables;
- Assist in organising, presenting and facilitating the NSWALC suite of training packages including Mandatory Governance Training to Board Members, staff and key members of the organisation;
- Act in accordance with NSWALC people policies and procedures, including WHS obligations at all times applying high standards of probity and ethical behaviour;
- Operate within a team environment;
- Assisting in establishing effective policies, procedures, and reporting and internal controls for LALCs to enable them to operate efficiently and effectively and;
- Assisting the NSWALC and the individual LALC’s in identifying and managing social and culture and heritage issues/programs.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
- Aboriginality - this is an identified position under Section 14 (d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
- Knowledge and/or appreciation of the cultural, social and economic needs of Aboriginal people.
- Demonstrated organisational skills with the ability to undertake diverse functions to meet client needs within policy and organisational frameworks.
- Demonstrated experience of office administrative functions and tasks.
- Excellent oral and written communication and including the capacity to negotiate.
- Demonstrated experience or ability to acquire knowledge in working with legislation and program delivery relating to Aboriginal people.
- Sound understanding of project management, and financial literacy skills.
- Demonstrated experience or ability to acquire knowledge in policy formulation, implementation and review.
- Demonstrated experience in research and problem solving skills.
- Ability to travel throughout the Zone in support of Local Aboriginal Land Councils.
- Current Driver's Licence.
