Job summary

BAI Communications is seeking an experienced Project Manager - Rail Communications to lead the delivery of telecommunications and critical communications systems across major rail infrastructure programs in Sydney.

Reporting to the Head of Delivery, you will own the design and construction program from initial design through integration, testing, commissioning and handover, acting as the key interface between internal teams, contractors and stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Proven experience delivering complex rail, transport, telecoms or critical infra projects.
• Strong planning, scheduling and controls capabilities; practical Primavera P6 use.
• Knowledge of DAS, fibre, critical comms networks and 5G environments.

Responsibilities

• Manage end-to-end delivery of rail communications projects on time, on budget and to quality standards.
• Develop and maintain project schedules using Primavera P6 with critical path analysis.
• Coordinate design, construction, integration, testing and commissioning activities across phases.
• Lead governance, reporting, risk management and stakeholder communications.
• Manage budgets, forecasts, variations, cash flow and resources.
• Drive change control and resolve issues and risks.
• Coordinate internal functions and interfaces with head contractors and asset owners.
• Ensure compliance with rail safety, quality processes and contractual obligations.
• Support project handover and close-out.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We're seeking an experienced Project Manager - Rail Communications to lead the delivery of telecommunications and critical communications systems across major rail infrastructure programs.

Reporting to the Head of Delivery, you will take ownership of the design and construction program from initial design through to integration, testing, commissioning and handover. Acting as the key interface between internal teams, contractors and project stakeholders, you'll ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with commercial, technical and program requirements.

This is an outstanding opportunity to contribute to some of Sydney's most significant transport infrastructure projects while working with advanced communications technologies that keep communities connected.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage end-to-end delivery of rail communications projects, ensuring outcomes are achieved safely, on schedule, within budget and to quality standards.
• Develop, maintain and drive project schedules using Primavera P6, including critical path analysis, dependency management and delivery forecasting.
• Coordinate design, construction, integration, testing and commissioning activities across multiple project phases.
• Lead project governance activities, including reporting, performance tracking, risk management and stakeholder communications.
• Manage project budgets, forecasts, variations, claims, cash flow and resource requirements.
• Drive change control processes and oversee the resolution of project issues, risks and deficiencies.
• Coordinate internal engineering, procurement, commercial, legal and document control functions to achieve project objectives.
• Manage interfaces with head contractors, rail asset owners, subcontractors, suppliers and consultants.
• Ensure compliance with contractual obligations, rail safety requirements, quality processes and HSE standards.
• Support successful project handover and close‑out activities.

LET’S HEAR ABOUT YOU

You are a highly capable project delivery professional with a strong track record leading complex infrastructure, telecommunications or rail projects within a major project environment.

You bring:

• Proven experience delivering complex rail, transport, telecommunications or critical infrastructure projects.
• Strong expertise in project planning, scheduling and controls, including practical experience using Primavera P6.
• Knowledge of telecommunications and radio systems, including technologies such as DAS, fibre, critical communications networks and emerging 5G environments.
• The ability to manage multi-disciplinary design and construction teams while balancing program, commercial and technical outcomes.
• Experience navigating head contract and subcontract delivery structures, including contract administration, variations and claims management.
• Strong understanding of risk management, project governance, reporting and quality assurance frameworks.
• Exceptional stakeholder engagement, negotiation and relationship‑building capabilities across clients, contractors and internal teams.
• A recognised Project Management qualification such as PMP, AIPM or equivalent.
• Tertiary qualifications in Project Management, Engineering or a related discipline will be highly regarded.
• Around 10+ years of experience delivering large-scale infrastructure or telecommunications projects.
