Job summary

BAI Communications is seeking a Structures Project Engineer to lead the design, delivery and management of structural solutions for national broadcast and telecom infrastructure across Australia. You will oversee towers, masts, and related assets, ensuring safety, quality and timely delivery while coordinating with contractors and regulators.

The role requires a Civil/Structural engineering degree, experience with towers and asset integrity, and strong stakeholder management.

Qualifications

• Degree-qualified Engineer in Civil or Structural Engineering or substantial lifecycle management experience.
• Strong background in broadcast, telecommunications or infrastructure construction and maintenance environments.
• Extensive experience with towers and masts, inspections, assessments and remediation planning.
• Knowledge of Australian standards and engineering codes for structural loading and asset integrity.
• Experience translating engineering findings into practical maintenance and capital works programs.

Responsibilities

• Produce conceptual and detailed structural designs for broadcast and telecommunications projects.
• Develop and maintain project delivery plans, documentation, reporting and technical records.
• Assess structural assets and determine maintenance, refurbishment, strengthening and upgrade requirements.
• Review inspection, maintenance completion, mast tensioning and alignment reports.
• Prepare scopes of work, specifications and RFP documentation for structural projects.
• Manage structural inspection and improvement programs, including scheduling and site access.
• Escalate project and technical issues to drive outcomes and risk mitigation.
• Coordinate with aviation and local authorities on tower lighting and obstruction marking requirements.
• Build relationships with contractors, suppliers, customers and internal stakeholders.
• Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time and within budget per BAI standards.

LET’S EXPLORE THE ROLE

As a Structures Project Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, technical delivery and project management of structural solutions that support BAI's national broadcast and telecommunications infrastructure. You'll work across a diverse portfolio of towers, masts and associated assets, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest engineering standards.

Working closely with contractors, customers and internal stakeholders, you'll manage structural inspection and improvement programs, develop maintenance strategies and provide technical expertise that ensures the ongoing reliability and integrity of critical communications infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

• Produce conceptual and detailed structural designs for broadcast and telecommunications infrastructure projects.
• Develop and maintain project delivery plans, documentation, reporting and technical records.
• Assess structural assets and determine maintenance, refurbishment, strengthening and upgrade requirements.
• Review structural inspection, maintenance completion, mast tensioning and alignment reports.
• Prepare scopes of work, specifications and request-for-proposal documentation for structural projects.
• Manage structural inspection and improvement programs, including scheduling, outages and site access requirements.
• Act as the escalation point for project and technical issues, driving effective outcomes and risk mitigation.
• Liaise with regulatory bodies including aviation and local authorities regarding tower lighting and obstruction marking requirements.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with contractors, suppliers, customers and internal stakeholders.
• Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget and in accordance with BAI project management standards.

You are a practical and solutions-focused engineering professional who enjoys combining technical expertise with project delivery. You bring experience across structural infrastructure environments and can confidently manage multiple stakeholders while delivering high-quality outcomes.

Technical Skills & Experience

• Degree-qualified Engineer, ideally in Civil or Structural Engineering, or substantial experience managing the full lifecycle of structural assets, including refurbishment, replacement and upgrade programs.
• Strong background in broadcast, telecommunications or infrastructure construction and maintenance environments.
• Extensive experience working with towers, masts and related structural assets, including inspections, assessments and remediation planning.
• Sound knowledge of Australian standards and engineering codes relating to structural loading, asset integrity and telecommunications infrastructure.
• Experience reviewing engineering reports and translating findings into practical maintenance and capital works programs.
• Proven capability managing contractors, suppliers and construction activities throughout project lifecycles.
• Working knowledge of obstruction marking and aviation lighting requirements for communications structures.
• Ability to manage competing project priorities, budgets, schedules and technical risks.
• Strong written communication skills with experience preparing technical reports, scopes of work and project documentation
• White Card, with Working at Heights certification highly regarded.
