Job description

Vanguard Mining is seeking an experienced Project Manager to deliver mining and mineral processing equipment projects from award through to handover. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will own scope, schedule, budget and quality across concurrent projects and act as the primary point of contact for clients during execution. You will work to the Project Delivery Framework, lead Project Engineers through engineering and design, fabrication, logistics, installation and commissioning, and coordinate global fabrication partners and suppliers. This is a hands‑on delivery role in a small, fast‑paced, client‑driven team, suited to a project manager with a technical background who is as comfortable with the cashflow sheet as with the site call. Success in this role is measured by projects delivered on time, within budget and to specification, clients who come back, and a clean handover to aftersales and site support teams.

Key responsibilities
  • Plan, execute and close projects in line with the Project Delivery Framework, delivering to scope, schedule and budget
  • Define project scope, objectives and deliverables with clients and internal stakeholders, and develop and maintain project execution plans covering schedules, budgets, resourcing and risk
  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients during project execution, run supplier progress meetings and prepare monthly progress reports
  • Develop and maintain project budgets, cost forecasts and cashflow, control expenditure within delegated authority, and prepare cost variations and extension of time requests to clients
  • Build and maintain project schedules and milestones in MS Project, monitor progress and act early on delays and overruns
  • Assess and manage changes to scope, schedule and budget, making sure change requests are documented, approved and reflected in the project plan
  • Provide and review technical input across the project lifecycle, from engineering and design through fabrication, logistics, installation, commissioning and aftersales support
  • Support Project Engineers to deliver technical and quality documentation, including IOMs, Parts Manuals, ITPs and MDRs, to a high industry standard
  • Enforce quality standards against internal, client and Australian Standards requirements within the ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 framework, conduct vendor quality checks and manage non‑conformances through to corrective action
  • Lead project closure, including final inspections and client acceptance, financial close‑out, spares lists and IOM handover to the aftersales and site support teams, and post‑project lessons learned
About you
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline (process engineering, metallurgy), or equivalent demonstrated industry experience
  • Minimum 5 years of project management experience in mining, mineral processing or heavy industry, delivering equipment projects end to end
  • Demonstrated capability in project planning, budgeting, scheduling, risk management and technical oversight
  • Experience working directly with clients, vendors and multidisciplinary teams, including offshore fabrication partners
  • Working knowledge of Australian Standards and the regulatory frameworks that apply to mining and heavy industry
  • Proficient with MS Project and established project management methodologies and tools. PMP or equivalent certification is desirable
  • Formal training in contract management, risk assessment or health and safety is an advantage
  • Commercially aware, with sound judgement that balances safety, quality, schedule and cost
  • Adaptable and comfortable in a small, fast‑paced team where you own outcomes rather than manage a process
  • Willing to travel domestically and internationally to support clients, suppliers and site activities, and to work outside standard hours when project deadlines require it
