Job summary

Vanguard Mining is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead our engineering and design function across mining and mineral processing projects. You will own the quality, accuracy and timeliness of every deliverable, from calculations and 3D models to drawings and design documentation.

You will lead a multidisciplinary team and partner with Project Managers, Sales, fabrication partners and site teams to ensure designs are buildable, compliant and delivered on schedule.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical/structural engineering is required; CPEng preferred.
• Minimum 10 years of engineering experience in heavy industry/mining is expected.
• Proven capability delivering across concurrent projects; strong resourcing and budgeting.
• Strong knowledge of Australian standards for steel, concrete and mechanical design (AS 4100/AS 3600).
• Proficiency with Inventor, AutoCAD and structural analysis tools (SpaceGass).

Vanguard Mining is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead our engineering and design function. Reporting directly to the General Manager, you will own the quality, accuracy and timeliness of every engineering deliverable across our mining and mineral processing projects, from calculations and 3D models through to drawings and design documentation. You will lead a multidisciplinary team of Engineers, Designers and Drafters, plan and allocate resources across concurrent projects, and set the standards, procedures and workflows that support our project delivery and growth. This is a hands‑on leadership role suited to a senior engineer who wants to build a team and a function, not just sign off drawings. Working closely with our Project Managers, Sales, fabrication partners and site teams, you will make sure what we design is buildable, compliant and delivered on time. Success in this role is measured by on‑time engineering deliverables, technical quality, a capable and accountable team, and engineering hours managed with the project margin in mind.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, manage and develop the Engineering and Design team, including day‑to‑day task allocation, priorities, performance reviews and professional development.
• Plan and allocate engineering resources across concurrent projects, balancing workload, capability and project priorities.
• Hold accountability for the timing, quality and accuracy of technical deliverables, including calculations, 2D/3D models, drawings and design documentation.
• Establish and maintain engineering standards, calculation templates, design procedures and review protocols across disciplines.
• Oversee design checking, peer review and engineering sign‑off, ensuring compliance with Australian Standards, client specifications, project scope and ISO 9001 procedures.
• Provide senior technical direction on complex or high‑risk design problems and make timely, well‑judged engineering decisions.
• Work with Project Managers and Sales to scope engineering effort, estimate hours and cost for proposals, and commit to realistic delivery schedules.
• Monitor engineering progress against schedules and budgets, resolving bottlenecks and delivery risks early.
• Support fabrication partners, suppliers and site teams through fabrication, installation and commissioning, including technical troubleshooting and verification.
• Ensure all engineering outputs meet safety, regulatory and statutory requirements, including safety in design, and manage design non‑conformances through to corrective action.

About you

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical, structural or a related engineering discipline. CPEng, or actively working towards it, is preferred.
• Minimum 10 years of engineering experience in mining, mineral processing or heavy industry, including at least 3 years leading a multidisciplinary engineering or design team.
• Demonstrated capability managing engineering delivery across concurrent projects, including resourcing, scheduling, budgets and quality.
• Strong working knowledge of Australian Standards for steel, concrete and mechanical design, including AS 4100 and AS 3600.
• Proficient with Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD and structural analysis tools such as SpaceGass.
• Experience working within ISO quality and HSE frameworks.
• A leader who sets clear expectations, gives direct feedback and builds accountability.
• Commercially aware, with sound engineering judgement that balances safety, compliance, constructability and cost.
• Willing to travel domestically and internationally on an ad hoc basis to support projects, clients and suppliers.
