Qualifications

• Security-focused infrastructure design and operations.

• Hands-on with Proxmox/VMware vSphere or Hyper-V.
• Security fundamentals and secure design principles.

Expertech is partnering with an exciting and technically sophisticated organisation to find a Platforms & Infrastructure Technical Lead to lead a small, highly capable infrastructure team across a multi‑site environment.
This is a genuine hands‑on technical leadership role. You'll lead a team of three Systems Engineers while remaining close to the technology yourself; setting technical direction, solving complex infrastructure problems, improving reliability and security, and ensuring the platforms underpinning the organisation are robust, scalable and fit for purpose. Based in Sydney, you'll work across a geographically distributed environment, collaborating with teams in Australia, the US and Europe.

Essential Skills & Experience

We're looking for a technically strong infrastructure professional who combines deep engineering capability with proven leadership experience.

• 5+ years' experience in systems engineering, including experience in a senior, lead or team leadership capacity.
• Proven experience leading, mentoring and developing a small technical team, including workload allocation, prioritisation and performance management.
• Strong Windows and Linux server administration experience, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP and file services.
• Strong networking expertise across TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, switching, wireless and firewalls.
• Strong understanding of infrastructure security, including endpoint protection, encryption and security controls.
• Solid experience with enterprise storage and protocols including SMB/CIFS, NFS, iSCSI and Fibre Channel.
• Hands‑on experience with virtualisation technologies such as Proxmox, VMware vSphere and/or Microsoft Hyper‑V.
• Strong cybersecurity fundamentals and a security‑first approach to infrastructure design and operations.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues and resolve problems calmly and effectively.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• A practical, hands‑on approach — you're comfortable leading from the front and getting into the detail when required.
• Experience with AWS, Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud Platform.
• Experience supporting geographically distributed environments.
• Experience with infrastructure monitoring, performance optimisation and capacity planning.
• Experience developing infrastructure standards, technical documentation and operational procedures.
• Experience implementing or improving security controls across infrastructure environments.
• Exposure to technology procurement, infrastructure projects and technical fit‑outs.
• Experience working in environments where uptime, performance and reliability are critical to business operations.
