Job summary

Halcyon Knights in Melbourne is seeking a Platform Lead to drive platform engineering, cloud strategy and production readiness for a global SaaS product. You will work with the CTO and cross-functional teams across software, DevOps, security, data and hardware to shape architecture and standards.

This role remains hands-on with cloud infrastructure, automation, CI/CD pipelines and production systems, while providing technical leadership and mentoring to engineers.

The Role

This is much more than a traditional Platform Engineering role.

Working closely with the CTO and engineering teams across software, DevOps, security, data and hardware, you'll play a key role in building and evolving the platforms that underpin a globally used SaaS product.

You'll remain hands-on across cloud infrastructure, automation, CI/CD and production systems while helping shape engineering standards, platform architecture and the adoption of modern AI-enabled engineering practices. If you enjoy solving complex technical problems, improving the way engineering teams work and mentoring others along the way, this is an opportunity to make a genuine impact.

The Tech

We're interested in speaking with Platform, DevOps, Cloud or Site Reliability Engineers with experience across some or all of the following:

• Strong AWS experience, with a solid understanding of production cloud architecture and infrastructure
• Strong Platform Engineering, DevOps or Site Reliability Engineering background
• Infrastructure as Code, ideally strong hands-on experience with Terraform
• Experience owning and improving production platforms, with a focus on scalability, reliability, availability and performance
• Strong CI/CD, deployment automation and containerised environments, including Docker and ideally Kubernetes
• Experience with event-driven/distributed architectures - ideally Kafka, or technologies such as SQS, SNS, EventBridge or similar
• Strong observability and SRE practices, including monitoring, alerting, incident management, SLOs and production troubleshooting
• Strong technical foundations with scripting/programming such as Python, Go, TypeScript, Bash or similar
• Ability to provide technical leadership - shaping architecture and platform direction, setting engineering standards, mentoring engineers and working closely with the CTO
• Security, DevSecOps and cloud cost/FinOps awareness
• Exposure to AI-assisted engineering, automation or AI-enabled platform tooling would be advantageous

Experience within SaaS/product environments is highly regarded, particularly platforms dealing with IoT, high-volume or real-time data, retail technology or distributed systems.
