Job summary

Blackroc Recruitment seeks a senior Platform Engineer to join a large and complex technology environment in Sydney. You will design and build cloud platforms, focusing on reliability, security and developer experience across cloud, automation, Kubernetes and modern engineering practices.

You will collaborate with engineering, architecture, security and operations teams to shape platform capabilities, implement Terraform-based IaC, CI/CD pipelines, and self-service provisioning, while setting

Qualifications

• Experience designing cloud platforms on AWS and Azure.
• Strong knowledge of Kubernetes and container platforms.
• Proficiency with Terraform and IaC practices.
• Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
• Familiarity with GitHub/GitLab and artifact repositories.
• Security-minded with DevSecOps experience.

Job description

We’re looking for a senior Platform Engineer to join a large and complex technology environment, working across cloud platforms, automation, Kubernetes and modern engineering practices.

This is a senior technical role for someone who enjoys building platforms that make it easier for engineering teams to deliver reliable, secure applications. You’ll be involved in both the hands‑on engineering and the broader direction of platform capabilities, working closely with engineering, architecture, security and operations teams.

You’ll be responsible for designing, building and continuously improving platform capabilities across a large-scale environment.

Responsibilities

• Designing and supporting cloud platforms across AWS and Azure
• Building and improving Kubernetes and container platforms
• Developing reusable infrastructure, automation and deployment patterns
• Improving CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code, particularly Terraform
• Building self-service capabilities that make it easier for developers to provision and deploy services
• Establishing engineering standards, reusable patterns and practical guardrails
• Embedding security into platform services and delivery processes
• Improving monitoring, observability, reliability and operational practices
• Working with engineering teams to improve developer experience and platform adoption
• Contributing to platform architecture, technical roadmaps and engineering standards
• Troubleshooting complex issues across cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, CI/CD and platform services
• Working across technical teams to identify opportunities for automation, standardisation and continuous improvement

You’ll ideally have strong experience across

• AWS and Azure
• Kubernetes and containerisation
• Terraform / Infrastructure as Code
• CI/CD and DevOps practices
• GitHub, GitLab and Artifactory
• Cloud security and DevSecOps
• Automation and policy-as-code
• Developer self-service and internal platforms
• Service mesh technologies
• Observability, monitoring, logging and distributed tracing
• Platform architecture, standards and governance

Experience with Backstage, OpenTelemetry and HashiCorp Vault will be highly regarded, as will experience working with large-scale enterprise platforms and supporting critical services.

You’ll need to be comfortable operating at a senior level, solving complex technical problems and working with a range of engineering and technical stakeholders.

Australian citizenship is required for this position.
