Job summary

Cluey Learning is seeking an experienced Payroll Officer to own the day-to-day payroll function, ensuring accurate, timely payments in line with Australian law. You will work with People & Culture and Finance to deliver a compliant and positive payroll experience for employees, tutors and instructors.

This role emphasizes autonomy, precision, confidentiality and ongoing process improvements, including AI-enabled automation to boost productivity. Hybrid Sydney work arrangement offered.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in Australian payroll roles.
• Strong knowledge of payroll legislation, taxation, and superannuation.
• Experience with ADP and Employment Hero.
• Experience using AI tools to automate tasks and improve reporting.
• High accuracy and confidentiality.
• Excellent organisational and deadline management.
• Strong communication and customer focus.
• Payroll or related qualification (desirable).

Responsibilities

• Manage fortnightly and monthly payroll cycles end-to-end.
• Maintain accurate payroll records and employee data.
• Prepare and reconcile PAYG withholding, superannuation, payroll tax, and workers' compensation.
• Ensure compliance with Australian employment laws and Modern Awards.
• Respond to payroll enquiries and process reimbursements.
• Collaborate with People & Culture and Finance to improve payroll processes, including AI-driven automation.
• Support additional payroll and finance activities as required.

We're looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Officer to join our Corporate Services team and help keep our payroll operations running seamlessly.

About the role

As our Payroll Officer, you'll take ownership of the day-to-day payroll function, ensuring our people are paid accurately, on time and in accordance with relevant legislative requirements.

You'll work closely with our People & Culture and Finance teams, playing an important role in delivering an efficient, compliant and positive payroll experience for our employees, tutors and instructors.

What you'll be doing

Manage and process accurate and timely fortnightly and monthly payroll cycles, including new starters, employee changes and terminations.

Maintain accurate employee payroll records, ensuring all information is up to date.

Prepare and reconcile payroll-related obligations, including PAYG withholding, superannuation, payroll tax and workers' compensation.

Ensure payroll processes comply with relevant Australian employment legislation, modern awards and statutory requirements.

Respond to employee payroll enquiries professionally and efficiently.

Process employee reimbursements, including Working with Children Checks and technology-related / mileage expenses.

Administer employee benefits and payroll adjustments.

Work collaboratively with People & Culture and Finance to identify and implement payroll process improvements, including opportunities to leverage AI and automation to boost productivity.

Support additional payroll and finance activities as required.

What you'll bring

We're looking for someone who is proactive, organised and genuinely enjoys working with people and numbers.

Ideally, you'll have

At least 3 years' experience in an Australian payroll role.

Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, taxation, superannuation and payroll compliance.

Experience using payroll systems such as ADP and Employment Hero (highly regarded).

Experience implementing productivity improvements by leveraging AI tools, such as automating manual tasks, streamlining reconciliations or improving reporting (highly regarded).

A high level of accuracy, attention to detail and confidentiality.

Excellent organisational skills and the ability to meet competing deadlines.

Strong communication skills and a customer-focused approach.

A proactive mindset, with the confidence to work independently and collaboratively.

A payroll, accounting or related qualification (desirable).
